Semester Offered: Spring Only
Survey of Modern Art History (H) explores the development of the art of Western Civilization, specifically painting, sculpture, and architecture. Emphasis is placed on 19th and 20th century art and aesthetic intentions, as well as their roots in the late 18th century. The course examines works of art that are most characteristic of each period and discusses questions such as: Why do we create art? What influences our choice of imagery? How does knowledge of the past help us to understand the art of the present? 3 credits
