  • Associate of Applied Science- Paramedic
    Designed for students who have successfully obtained their National Registered Paramedic certification. Please see Cecil College catalog for details. 
  • Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology Designed for students, who currently hold a national certification as a Medical Coder and/or have five years’ experience as a coder, the opportunity to prepare for a career in the ever-changing world of Healthcare Information Technology. Students will be prepared to work in various areas of health information technology such as: verifying accurate completion of medical records; data management; and use of computer applications to assess and analyze patient data and healthcare costs.   • Associate of Science in Healthcare Science
    Designed for students who currently hold a national certification in a Healthcare field, who would like to continue working towards a degree. Please see Cecil College catalog for details.
     
  • Certificate, Electronic Health Records Specialist
    Designed for students who currently hold a national certification as a Medical Coder or have five years’ experience as a coder, the opportunity to prepare for work in the field of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) management and maintenance. Please see Cecil College catalog for details.

Non-degree options:

  • Paramedic
    Emergency Medical Technology is a rapidly expanding profession involving the provision of immediate care to the critically ill and injured at the scene of an emergency, and the transport of these patients to a hospital. The Paramedic program at Cecil College is offered in cooperation with Cecil County Department of Emergency Services. The Paramedic program consists of 736 hours of theoretical and clinical instruction. Students who successfully complete the Paramedic program are eligible to sit for the National Registered Paramedic Exam. Students who are interested in the Paramedic program should contact a Cecil College advisor or Cecil County EMS at 410-392-2024.

  • Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant
    Nursing assistants provide the foundation of in-patient care by caring for patients' daily needs in a home setting, hospital, or long term care. The program consists of 91 hours of theory and 59 hours of clinical experience. All students who enroll in the Nursing Assistant program are prepared for the Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) exam.

  • Medicine Aide
    Geriatric Nursing Assistants working in Maryland long-term care facilities have a unique opportunity for advancement by becoming Certified Medicine Aides. This program provides GNAs, who meet specific licensing and experiential requirements, the skills necessary to dispense medications. Students will have training and in-class laboratory practice concerning the techniques, principles and procedures for safe administration of non-parenteral medications.

  • Physician Professional Coder
    This program provides students with the basic medical knowledge along with the medical coding procedures used to bill insurance companies and track health conditions and diseases for reporting purposes. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder certification exam of the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).

  • Medical Assistant
    This program provides the student with the necessary skills to run an efficient medical practice. A medical assistant can assist in any capacity, including: scheduling appointments; greeting patients; taking vital signs, drawing blood; ordering prescriptions, providing basic education about a patient's medical condition; billing insurance companies, give injections, and perform EKGs.The full time, day program prepares students take the national certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
    • Students may be eligible to apply for advance placement (AP), transfer credit (TC), or credit for experiential learning (CEL) according to the college guidelines and the federal financial aid requirements for those students considering the MAP program. Students should refer to their student handbook or contact the department to have specific questions answered @ tevans@cecil.edu.

 

  • Medical Administrative Assistant
    Medical administrative assistants greet visitors, answer telephones, route and screen calls, respond to inquiries from the public, schedule patient appointments, gather patients' personal and financial information and direct them to the appropriate waiting rooms.Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) Medical Administrative Assistant exam.

  • Phlebotomist
    Phlebotomists are primarily responsible and accountable for the collection of blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam.
